On 31.12.1998 The final transmission from Norddeichradio took place on the VHF channels. R/O Wolfgang Hellriegel recorded the event as he announced the closure with the following text:  All Ships All Ships All Ships this is „Norddeich Radio“ „Norddeich Radio“ „Norddeich Radio“ and the remote controlled stations „Elbe-Weser Radio“, „Helgoland Radio“, „Bremen Radio“, „Hamburg Radio“, „Eiderstedt Radio“, „Nordfriesland Radio“, „Flensburg Radio“, „Kiel Radio“, „Lübeck Radio“, „Fischland Radio“, „Rostock Radio“, „Rügen Radio“ and „Arkona Radio“. The Deutsche Telekom will cease the Maritime Mobile Radio Service now. For more than 91 years „Norddeich Radio“ was on the air for your requirements. But at last our service was no longer requested. Inmarsat communication and GSM Mobile Phone made a VHF-telephone call needless. The distress and safety watch on VHF channel 16 and Digital Selective Call channel 70 is maintained by MRCC Bremen already. Thank you for the friendly cooperation during the past years.
