My introduction to Sahaja Yoga meditation and Shri Mataji began about 10 years
ago. I had heard about this kundalini awakening from my sister-in-law, who had
tried the meditation program at a private house nearby to her.
So I looked in my local newspaper to discover that a similar suburban program
was being held nearby in my suburb. Quite fateful!! I made some enquiries over
the phone to the people organizing the meditation program to find them genuinely
interested in imparting their knowledge of Sahaja Yoga meditation.
And unlike other unusual and costly transformation practices that I had
tried, the Sahaja Yoga program was free and simple. At the first introduction
program, I heard some explanation of the chakra system and how that the
kundalini can be raised.
Wow! From what I had read of kundalini it was normally only accessible by
arduous penance. The speaker was from interstate visiting and seemed quite
knowledgeable but not in a bookish way he was speaking from a vast
experience.
My experience on that night was not particularly powerful, although I did
feel a brief moment of thouhtlessness the first aim of the meditator. I was
encouraged to continue practicing using the techniques taught to me on the first
night. I did, and the following two weeks were a joy to experience, with the
kundalini connecting me with the divine force.
I was experiencing a great cleansing and a positive change at the same time.
Today I still practice Sahaja Yoga meditation everyday and enjoy passing on the
gift of inner knowledge to interested seekers at any opportunity. The beauty of
the spirit, once found, transcends the desire for anything less than pure.
To reflect on this aspect of my life, I had written a poem in 1992 describing
the joy at finding this connection with the divine through the grace of Shri
Mataji Nirmala Devi, as follows:
In times of modern age
Has come the ultimate sage
To save us from our destruction
By giving self realization
For twenty odd years Mother has strove
To spread Sahaj culture with love
Without any requests for money
Only that your desire be like a bear after honey
For those of you like I
Have faltered, slipped or deny
Know in your heart what is true
Recognition of spirit, the childlike you
There is so much more that I can say
About our Mother and Her play
But stop I may at this interlude
To gather more words to be continued
- Jai Shri Mataji!
